Take it everywhere
Having worried that I was finding too many negatives for my Nikon Z7ii, I realised that the opposite was true for the Sony DSC RX100. I can’t remember exactly when I bought this camera or how much it cost, but I know it’s still going strong in its seventh iteration. Do I need to mention the first advantage? I mean, just look at the photo on the right. It is tiny compared to the Nikon and you can literally carry it around in your pocket. The lens isn’t interchangeable but the retractable Carl Zeiss zoom lens packs a punch. Maybe when I bought it I didn’t really appreciate this because I didn’t have Photoshop, but way back when this camera was producing 20MP raw images. It does have a few drawbacks, such as no viewfinder (and no tilting screen, if I’m being picky, but it is a big screen for a small camera) and only saving to SD cards, plus you can only charge the battery when it’s in the camera. But overall this 10-year-old almost forgotten pocket rocket really surprised me when I last took it out into the field - so much so that I ordered a separate mini tripod and some filters to go with it (and slot in filters for this small lens are much cheaper than the 150mm ones for the Nikon).
