In the stillness of the night, when the entire world is wrapped in soft, ephemeral dreams, I quietly sneak out with my Nikon Z7ii and sometimes the Holga 120N with a roll of 120mm film, trying to convince myself that sleep is wildly overrated. Hiking by the soft glow of moonlight is always a gamble; for every mesmerising shot of the stars peeking through intertwined branches, there’s a missed opportunity that feels all too much like chasing fleeting shadows. Two hours in, I find myself questioning my very sanity. Am I truly a dedicated photographer or simply a nocturnal wanderer with an unusual flair for dramatic failures? Yet, with a deep, calming breath, I remind myself: every great photo begins with a touch of madness. And if nothing else, the elevation of my expectations might just manage to match the altitude I’m traversing. Either I'll capture a breathtaking scene that makes this sleepless night entirely worth it or return home with nothing but a few bruised shins and a newfound appreciation for my comforting bed. Either way, I’ll have the thrill of adventure to carry with me into the dawn.
